I used the Turtle Counseling Technique to help a student who wanted to learn to stay in control of his voice in class (rather than shouting out). The Turtle Technique teaches students to "go in their shells" before acting. It is a fun, engaging way to encourage students to stop and think about consequences and alternatives.

Hallway display of student work samples from a 3rd grade guidance lesson based on the book "One", by Kathryn Otoshi. Students decorated number "1"s with ways they, as individual students, could make a difference. Examples included "Stand up to bullying," "Pick up litter," and "Help a little kid learn something new."
